Why examinations and pregnancy monitoring tests are important
Your journey to life’s most joyous event begins. The fetus grows and develops, and the mother’s organism changes under the influence of the ongoing processes, gradually preparing for the trials of the greatest miracle – childbirth.
EXAMINATIONS
The first visit to your gynecologist marks the beginning of a process that will continue until the time of birth. The gynecologist gets to know you and your medical history, your physical condition and possible risks of pregnancy.
Examination with a modern ultrasound machine gives an accurate picture of the condition of the fetus. It is carried out repeatedly to monitor how your baby is developing. In order to ensure the highest quality of the examination, we have chosen to work only with ultrasound devices of the American company General Electric, which is a leader in diagnostic imaging.
During the follow-up visit, your doctor will discuss with you on the results of the tests or other consultations.
TESTS
- Microbiological examination of vaginal fluid
Microbiological tests are carried out in our laboratory, which is of the third level of competence. Pregnancy is a period when a woman’s immune system is weakened, and this makes her more vulnerable to infections. The test aims at early detection and prevention of infections of the female genital organs, because this also prevents infections in the newborn after birth. We protect both the mother and her baby.
- Pap smear test
This test provides information about the condition and possible risks on the cervical side. Our doctors, including a national consultant in female genital pathology, assess for abnormalities that could create difficulties in childbirth.
- Virological tests
Viruses are the silent invaders that can also take advantage of the drop in maternal immunity. Often, they remain unnoticed, without causing symptoms in the pregnant woman, while they can cause serious damage to the fetus. Our virology laboratory team, headed by a professor of virology, using high-tech equipment and state-of-the-art methods of genetic analysis, determines whether or not viruses are present, whether they are active and whether there is a risk to the fetus.
- Determination of blood group and Rh factor with confirmation
Determining the blood group and the type of Rh factor of the mother are of key importance in the course of childbirth and the health of the fetus. This applies particularly to the Rh factor – the presence of a negative Rh factor in the mother can endanger the fetus, if this is not known to doctors. If it is known in advance that there is Rh incompatibility between a mother and baby, doctors can take adequate measures and prevent hemolytic disease in the newborn. What is more, they can also take steps to protect the patient’s subsequent children.
The test is done with an official confirmation from the National Blood Center, the document is provided to the patient, and can then serve the patient in all subsequent medical procedures.
- Clinical laboratory tests
Bodily fluids, such as blood, urine and others, contain substances that medical science has learned to use for millennia as a way to assess the functioning of our bodies. Their measurement is aimed at giving information about the general condition of the patient, whether there is serious anemia, how the internal organs function in conditions of pregnancy.
All tests are performed on robotic automated analyzers, which allow speed in production and accuracy of results.
If there is any abnormality in any test, your doctor will conduct further tests or examinations to assess whether treatment needs to be administered.
- Echo mammography
This study is a GIFT from us, included in the package. Women’s breasts are given an important role – to provide sustenance for future life. Echo mammography – ultrasound examination of the breasts, which is harmless to the fetus, aims to assess their condition and readiness for the lactation period.
EXAMINATIONS
As you can see, you will be visiting your gynecologist more during this period – we have provided a total of 6 examinations in the package for this. This is the case because the burden of pregnancy will become more and more noticeable to your body over time. The specialist physician will monitor you to make sure that the changes do not endanger yours and your child’s health.
Ultrasound Doppler examination of the blood vessels is important to assess the conditions the fetus grows and develops in.
During this period you will have the opportunity to ask more questions, get advice, and prepare for giving birth.
TESTS
- Microbiological examination of vaginal fluid
The test aims at early detection and prevention of infections of the female genital organs, because this also prevents infections in the newborn after birth. We continue to protect both the mother and her baby.
- Virological test
Viruses are the silent invaders that can also take advantage immune drop in maternal immunity. Our virology professor and his team will run the syphilis test once more time on the eve of delivery, in order to make sure there really is no carriage of the virus in any form – active or inactive.
- Clinical laboratory tests
The measurement of certain main indicators in blood and urine is aimed at giving information about the change in the general condition of the patient, whether there is serious anemia, how the internal organs function in the conditions of progressing pregnancy. Your body has the task of taking care of not only its own needs, but also those of the baby. For example, the kidneys work to cleanse both the mother and the baby’s organism. That is why tracking their function is of the highest priority.
All tests are performed on robotic automated analyzers, which allow speed in production and accuracy of results.
If there is an abnormality in any factor, your doctor will conduct further tests or examinations, until he or she determines whether there is indeed an abnormality, in order to administer the appropriate treatment.
- Pre-natal non-stress test (NST)
Without a doubt, the most exciting moment for you will be when you can hear the living proof of a miracle that’s growing in your womb. “NST” (non-stress test) refers to the examination of children’s heart tones – in other words, the beating of the baby’s heart. Thanks to modern technology, you will be able to hear it while the device also examines the condition of the uterus. As a result, you and your gynecologist will have a record that reflects the baby’s heartbeat and uterine activity.

Their measurement is aimed at giving information about the general condition of the patient, whether there is serious anemia, how the internal organs function in conditions of pregnancy – kidneys, liver, etc. Among the endocrine glands, the most important during pregnancy, as well as for its successful course to term, is the thyroid gland. Its function is studied by measuring thyrotropic hormone – TSH.

One of the possible and uncommon complications of pregnancy is the development of gestational diabetes – a disorder in carbohydrate metabolism caused by pregnancy.
By testing glycated hemoglobin and performing a glucose tolerance test (testing glucose levels at 0, 60 and 120 minutes after oral glucose intake), we aim to detect the onset of this complication as early as possible in order to apply timely treatment and thus prevent permanent damage to the body.
