Assoc. Prof. Ralitsa Georgieva

Assoc. Prof. Ralitsa Georgieva graduated with honors from the Medical University of Sofia in 1987. She holds two medical specialties – Pediatrics (1995) and Neonatology (1999).

Since 1991, she has been working at the Neonatology Clinic of the Specialized Children’s Hospital “Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev.” In 2009, she became Head of the Neonatology Unit.

She teaches at the Medical University of Sofia, where she trains both medical students and residents specializing in Pediatrics and Neonatology, as well as delivering specialized postgraduate courses. She is the author of over 200 scientific publications and has presented at Bulgarian and international scientific forums.

Postgraduate training and specializations:

• Cranial ultrasound in neonates and neonatal intensive care, University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany

• Neurological disorders in the neonatal period and prevention of nosocomial infections in NICUs, Paris, France

• Mechanical ventilation in the neonatal period, Stockholm, Sweden

• Functional CNS diagnostics in newborns, Austria

Her special professional interests include neonatal neurology, cranial ultrasonography (transfontanelle ultrasound), cerebral functional monitoring, and cerebral oximetry.

Assoc. Prof. Georgieva is part of the medical team at the Nadezhda Medical Center, where she performs transfontanelle ultrasound examinations.
