Dr Emil Kostadinov

Dr. Emil Kostadinov graduated in medicine in 2001 at the Medical University – Sofia, and acquired a specialty in surgery in 2008. In 2009 he received a Certificate in Laparoscopic Surgery.

He has over 20 years of experience in the field of minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery, in performing minimally invasive proctological procedures, minimally invasive treatment of gallstone disease, groin hernias, laparoscopic colon surgery, surgical treatment of malignant melanoma, including sentinel biopsies.

 

Since 2020 he has been active in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery. Attends specialized courses and “hands-on” training at tertiary referral centers with 1200-1400 bariatric surgeries per year: Bariatric academy, Frankfurt, Germany. Prof. Bruno Dillemans. Successfully performs bariatric surgeries – sleeve resection, different types of bypass.

 

He has had many trainings, courses and specializations in the field of abdominal and minimally invasive surgery – Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset, Stockholm, Sweden; Policlinico Universitario “Agostino Gemelli”, Roma, Italy; IKEM Prague Czech Republic; Erricos Dunnant Hospital, Athens, Greece; Paracelsus Medical University, Salzburg, Austria; Bnai Zion Med Center, Haifa, Israel; AKH, Wien, Austria and others.

His professional career began in 2002 as a surgeon in Veliko Tarnovo. In 2004 he started his PhD studies on “Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer and polyposis intestinal syndromes” in the Clinic of Surgery at the University Hospital “Tsaritsa Ioanna – ISUL”. From 2011 to 2020 he was Assistant Professor of Surgery at the same hospital, and since 2012 for 8 years he has held the position of “Chief of Team” at the hospital. From 2019 to 2020 he is the Head of the 1st Sector, Clinic of Surgery, University Hospital “Tsaritsa Ioanna – ISUL”, Medical University – Sofia. From June 2020 to June 2023, he is part of the team of the Surgery Department of Vita Hospital, assuming its leadership between April 2021 and June 2023. From June 2023, he joins the team of Nadezhda Hospital.

 

Dr Kostadinov is a member of IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders), IBC (International Bariatric Club, Oxford), Bulgarian Society of Bariatric/Metabolic Surgery, Bulgarian Surgical Society, Bulgarian Medical Association, EHS (European hernia society). He has published and participated in numerous congresses in the above mentioned fields of interest.
