Dr Nikolay Bonev

Dr Nikolay Bonev is a psychologist and lecturer in the Master’s Program in Clinical Psychology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He works in the fields of clinical psychology, psychoanalytic therapy, and psychoanalysis.

Dr  Bonev is a member of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Association and part of the editorial board of the only specialized Bulgarian journal in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. He is the author of numerous publications, a monograph, empirical studies, and essays in the areas of body image disturbances, attachment organization, and attachment trauma.

He is a co-founder and secretary of the Section on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Bulgarian Psychological Society. He has specialized in the assessment and categorization of attachment using the Adult Attachment Projective Picture System (AAP), and is a certified reliable rater in adult attachment assessment (Copenhagen, Denmark and Mills College, California, USA).

Dr Bonev regularly presents at national and international conferences on clinical psychology and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In 2016, he received the award of the Scientific and Organizing Committee of the Second National Congress of Clinical Psychology with International Participation for “Young Scientist in Clinical Psychology.” He has served as a member of the Scientific Committee of the Second (2016), Third (2020), and Fourth (2024) Congresses of Clinical Psychology with International Participation.

His scientific and applied interests focus on attachment organization, trauma and loss, body image development and disturbances, psychoanalytic therapy, and psychoanalysis. He works with children, adolescents, and adults.
