Prof Snezhina Mihaylova
clinical immunologist
Prof Mihaylova graduated in Medicine in 1999 from the Medical University of Sofia.
She obtained a specialty in Clinical Immunology in 2006, and in 2007 was awarded the academic degree of PhD for her research on the immunogenetics of multiple sclerosis.
Since 2016 she has been an Associate Professor, and since 2024 – Full Professor at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Medical University of Sofia, with extensive teaching experience. She has specialized in immunology and molecular diagnostics at the Northern Ireland Tissue Typing Laboratory, City Hospital, Belfast, The University of Nottingham, UK, and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Spain.
She has developed and implemented an algorithm for the molecular diagnostics of a number of immune-mediated diseases. Her scientific research interests are primarily in the fields of immune deficiencies, chronic inflammatory diseases and infections, neurodegenerative disorders, transplant immunology, autoimmune diseases, and reproductive immunological disorders.
Prof Mihaylova has authored more than 100 publications and has participated in numerous national and international scientific projects. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, she is engaged in the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients with diseases related to immune system dysfunction, including those with reproductive failures.
She is a Board Member of the Bulgarian Association for Clinical Immunology, as well as a member of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID), the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI), and the Bulgarian Society of Human Genetics and Genomics (BSHGG).
She has contributed to the development of medical procedures, standards, and guidelines in support of health care institutions and regulatory bodies. She is Chair of the National Expert Specialized Board on Clinical Immunology of the Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA); External Expert to the Specialized Committee of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF); External Expert to the Expert Centre for Rare Metabolic Diseases in Pediatrics at the Specialized Children’s Hospital “Prof. Ivan Mitev”; External Expert to the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA); and a member of the Expert Council on Clinical Immunology.
