A Story That Continues: My Four Children Born at Nadezhda Hospital
On 23 January, baby Aleksandra was born at Nadezhda Hospital. She is the fourth child of Desislava and Plamen, and just like her brothers and sister before her, she took her first breath in the delivery ward of Nadezhda Hospital.

Little Aleksandra was born naturally under the care of Dr. Krasina Licheva and midwife Aysel Yuzeirova. Desislava chose Dr. Licheva to oversee the pregnancy and delivery of her second child in 2019. Since then, Dr. Licheva has become part of the remarkable story of a family that, despite the demands of everyday life, never hesitated to welcome and lovingly raise four wonderful children.
The day after Aleksandra’s birth, we met with Desislava and Dr. Licheva to hear their inspiring story. Here is what a mother of four and her dedicated physician shared with us.
1. Desislava, tell us about your wonderful family – four children born at Nadezhda Hospital.
All four of my children were born at Nadezhda Hospital, respectively in 2014, 2019, 2021, and 2025. My first child was delivered by Dr. Lyubomir Hristov, who at that time was providing pregnancy care. The other three pregnancies were monitored by Dr. Krasina Licheva, and all three children were born under her care.
My first and fourth children are girls, while the middle two are boys. Their names are Nia, Kristian, Mihael, and Aleksandra. All four were born through natural vaginal delivery.
My husband, Plamen, was with me in the delivery room for the births of our first two children. He could not attend the third birth because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the fourth he had to stay at home with the children.
2. Why did you choose Nadezhda Hospital as the place to welcome your children into the world?
A friend recommended the hospital to me because I wanted to try for a natural birth. That is how my journey with Nadezhda began.
During my second pregnancy, Dr. Licheva took care of my son. It turned out that he had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck three times, but we managed successfully.
Dr. Licheva was by my side throughout the entire process and remained my physician for the pregnancies and births of my next two children as well. I would like to thank her from the bottom of my heart for her care, encouragement, and support, which helped me build this wonderful family.
3. How are you feeling after the birth of your fourth child here at Nadezhda Hospital?
I feel great – I’m full of energy and have had no complications. For us, the real adventure begins once we return home.
4. What would you say to families who are hesitant about having more than two children?
Children are a true blessing. They inspire you to give the very best of yourself as a parent and fill your life with love. The key is good organisation. My husband and I take care of our children ourselves, support one another, work, stay active, and teach our children responsibility and care for each other.
5. We are meeting you just a few days before discharge. Are your daughter and two sons excited about meeting their baby sister?
They are all eagerly waiting for her. They are already discussing who will hold the baby first, who will read her bedtime stories, and who will spend the most time with her.
6. What are your wishes for your children?
I wish them good health and that we always stay together. And for their father and me – plenty of energy to keep up with all their lively games and adventures.

For nearly ten years now, Desi and I have been sharing the journey and wonder of carrying and bringing new life into the world under the roof of Nadezhda Hospital.
I do not know whether we will meet here again for this particular reason, but I am certain we will continue to see each other for regular preventive check-ups.
It is a true privilege and honour for me to know this remarkable woman and to have become part of her journey to parenthood on three occasions.
