Attendants in the delivery room

The father can be an extremely important and full participant in your baby’s birth. He becomes part of the team – he supports the laboring woman in her movements, assists her with massage, and may cut the baby’s umbilical cord himself if he wishes. If he does not feel comfortable or is worried, he can leave the room during gynaecological examinations, the insertion of epidural analgesia, the actual delivery of the baby, during the performance of various procedures.

Father in the delivery room

The father can be an extremely important and full participant in your baby’s birth. He becomes part of the team – he supports the laboring woman in her movements, assists her with massage, and may cut the baby’s umbilical cord himself if he wishes. If he does not feel comfortable or is worried, he can leave the room during gynaecological examinations, the insertion of epidural analgesia, the actual delivery of the baby, during the performance of various procedures. Immediately after the completion of the anxiety-raising procedures, he can be with you again and spend the early postnatal period with you and the newborn until your transfer to the Postnatal Clinic.

Practice shows that the presence of the partner has an extremely positive effect on the birth process. He or she will encourage you to observe proper breathing when you are in pain or pushing, may massage tense areas of your body, assist you in getting into a comfortable position, and take your first pictures with your newborn baby!

Other birth attendants

A supportive role during childbirth can be played by a companion other than the father – mother, sister, friend. At Nadezhda Hospital, professional birth attendants – doulas who meet the hospital’s requirements – are also allowed.  When admitting attendants, the mother’s wish and the specific situation are the guiding factors. In case of emergency or risky conditions and manipulations, it is desirable that the attendants leave the delivery room until the critical situation has passed.

The midwife – always by our side

The role of the midwife during childbirth is to be close to the labouring woman throughout the process – to monitor its course, to watch for deviations from the norm, to care for the labouring woman and not only medically, but also physically and emotionally support her, to take over the newborn during labour and in the first moments after that.

The midwife is a companion, a medical consultant and the main performer of medical activities during normal childbirth. All the staff of Nadezhda Hospital are specially selected and prepared to meet the medical and emotional needs of each labouring woman.
