Nadezhda Hospital Physicians Take on Mentorship Roles at the International ESGE Congress in Istanbul

From October 19 to 22, 2025, the 34th International Congress on Gynaecological Endoscopy, organized by the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE), took place in Istanbul, Türkiye.

Three physicians from Nadezhda Hospital—Dr. Iliana Hristova, MD, PhD, Dr. Desislava Koleva, and Dr. Yana Nikolova—were invited by the organizers to serve as mentors during the GESEA examination sessions held as part of the congress.

This invitation represents a significant international recognition of our colleagues’ expertise and professionalism and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the education and development of the next generation of medical specialists.

Nadezhda Hospital’s GESEA Training Centre was established in 2022 and successfully completed official ESGE accreditation in July 2025 following a comprehensive audit that confirmed the high quality of its training programs and full compliance with GESEA standards.

The centre is led by Dr. Hristova, who has been a certified ESGE trainer since 2018 and holds the European Diploma in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery. The training team also includes five young specialists who have successfully completed and passed the Level 1 and Level 2 GESEA examinations.

This accreditation marked another important step in establishing Nadezhda Hospital as a leading centre for education and professional development in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.

What is GESEA?

GESEA (Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgical Education and Assessment) is a European educational program designed to improve the quality and standardization of training in gynaecological endoscopy.

The program combines theoretical education with practical training modules in hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and laparoscopic suturing. Training is conducted using ESGE-validated workstations, specialized simulators, and advanced endoscopic equipment supplied by leading manufacturers.

The courses are suitable not only for obstetricians and gynaecologists but also for young surgeons who wish to develop and refine their endoscopic surgical skills.

All courses are intensive two-day programs conducted in small groups to ensure personalized instruction and hands-on experience.
