Nadezhda Team Presented at the World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
Two scientific presentations by the team of the Research Laboratory at Nadezhda Hospital were featured at the World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss.

From 16 to 19 January 2025, the 7th World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss took place in Singapore, bringing together leading experts and researchers from around the globe. Participants discussed the latest advances in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of pregnancy loss in patients with a history of recurrent miscarriages.
The prestigious scientific forum also featured two presentations by the team of the Research Laboratory at Nadezhda Hospital (Dimitar Parvanov and colleagues), under the leadership of Dr. Georgi Stamenov and in collaboration with internationally renowned research institutions.
Before the global scientific community, our colleagues presented innovative research focused on the use of predictive biomarkers in peripheral blood to assess miscarriage risk, as well as potential therapeutic approaches aimed at preventing pregnancy loss.
To learn more about the team’s participation in the World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and the studies presented there, we spoke with Dimitar Parvanov, Head of the Research Laboratory at Nadezhda Hospital.
1. What did the innovative studies you presented at the World Congress on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss focus on?
The two presentations we delivered focused on the investigation and development of a panel of biomarkers—including immune markers and entirely novel, previously unexplored markers of immune senescence—to assess the risk of miscarriage.
The implementation of these advanced tests at Nadezhda Hospital allows us to identify potential problems affecting pregnancy progression and to take timely action through appropriate treatment strategies aimed at preventing pregnancy loss.
2. What was the response to your studies at the congress?
The presentations attracted considerable interest and were attended by a large number of congress participants. We received many questions regarding the mechanisms and causes behind the observed trends, as well as the effectiveness of using these biomarkers in combination with the therapeutic approaches currently being explored.
3. What are the new challenges and priorities for the Research Laboratory at Nadezhda Hospital this year?
We are currently working in a wide range of research and development areas. This year, we plan to introduce new methods for diagnosing and assessing endometrial receptivity, as well as non-invasive approaches for evaluating the risk of miscarriage.
At the same time, we continue to refine and further develop methods already established at Nadezhda Hospital and unique in Bulgaria, including sperm assessment and selection techniques based on the zona pellucida and cumulus matrix (the so-called Zona Selection and Cumulus Selection methods).

Another key focus is the development and optimization of cell-based therapies in reproductive medicine, as well as the introduction of a novel test designed to assess metabolic age and aging-related processes that may affect patients’ reproductive potential.
In parallel, our team continues to expand its scientific expertise and professional competencies. Several PhD projects involving members of the laboratory and colleagues from other hospital departments are currently underway in collaboration with leading Bulgarian universities and research institutions.
We are also preparing a significant number of original scientific publications for submission to prestigious international journals, covering various research projects developed within the Research Laboratory. In addition, our team will continue to present its findings at some of the world’s leading congresses dedicated to reproductive medicine.
