Bonding (skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby) immediately after birth is thought to aid the newborn’s adaptation – bringing him reassurance from the warmth and familiar sound of mum’s heart, giving him a breath of security in the new world – the first few drops of colostrum, the beginning of a new bond with mum. In Nadezhda’s delivery rooms, you have the opportunity to spend the first minutes and hours of your newborn’s life with him/her, as long as the newborn’s condition or your own does not require intensive medical care.
Immediately after birth, the baby is taken in for a neonatal check-up, measured and weighed, fitted with the unique number bracelet that he/she will wear for the rest of his/her hospital stay, and then immediately returned to mom’s breast.
If your baby needs urgent medical care, he or she will be shown to you briefly, then taken care of by our neonatologists – the condition of the baby and the care for him/her is the guiding factor.
In a normal birth with no complications for mum or newborn, you can spend the first two hours after birth with baby and dad in the Delivery Room. You will then be transferred to the Postnatal Clinic.
